What does “verified” actually mean?

AI TrustMark only describes something as verified when evidence supports that specific claim. Every public verification record identifies what was checked, the depth of verification completed and when it was last assessed.

What is AI TrustMark?
AI TrustMark is an independent verification layer for AI services. It checks supplier, product, operating-control and customer evidence, then publishes what was examined, how deeply it was checked and when. It is not a government scheme, UKAS-accredited certification body or a paid ranking marketplace.
What does independent AI verification mean?
Independent verification means a named scope is checked against evidence rather than accepted as a supplier claim. Public records state the evidence inspected, the evidence grade, the date and any unresolved gap. Buyers still make their own award, legal and risk decisions.
What is the difference between an AI TrustMark, review stars and an Assurance score?
A TrustMark is a verified assessment status for a defined scope. Customer-review stars are a separate Bayesian 1–5 evidence stream used for directory order once ranking eligibility is unlocked. The Assurance Score is a separate 0–100 product-assessment measure. Payment cannot buy any of them.
Can a supplier pay for a better score or ranking?
No. Payment can fund review collection, verification labour or assessment depth, but it cannot buy review stars, directory position, a higher Assurance Score or a predetermined certificate outcome.
How does AI TrustMark help buyers procure AI?

What do Bronze, Silver and Gold mean?
They describe investigation depth, not a league table of providers. Bronze uses external evidence, Silver adds operational evidence, and Gold adds technical examination where access is granted. Deeper investigation is not a claim that a supplier is better.
Does AI TrustMark replace ISO/IEC 42001 or UKAS certification?
No. ISO/IEC 42001 is an AI management-system standard that can be certified by an accredited body. AI TrustMark is independent product and supplier assurance. It is not UKAS accreditation, ISO certification or a substitute for the buyer's legal obligations.
