What is an AI TrustMark?

A plain explanation of what an AI TrustMark is, what it is not, and how it relates to reviews, ranking and assurance.

An AI TrustMark is a verified status for a named AI product after independent evidence checks under AI TrustMark's published methodology. It is recorded as a certificate-style outcome you can look up publicly.

It is not a customer-review star rating, a directory league position, a paid advertising badge, or an ISO/IEC 42001 or UKAS certificate.

What an AI TrustMark represents

A TrustMark says that specific evidence about a product and organisation was examined against defined rules, and that the published status reflects that assessed state at a point in time.

Useful questions a TrustMark can help answer include:

  • Has this product been through an independent evidence process, or only a self-claim?
  • What was assessed, and under which depth of examination?
  • Can the certificate identity be verified on the public verify page?

What it does not mean

An AI TrustMark does not mean:

  • the product is the best in its category;
  • payment purchased a favourable outcome;
  • the supplier ranks higher in the directory because of the TrustMark;
  • the organisation holds ISO/IEC 42001 or UKAS accreditation;
  • every claim on the supplier's website has been endorsed.

How it relates to other AI TrustMark services

AI TrustMark keeps three lanes distinct:

1. Directory and verified customer evidence — listings, review invitations, verification and publication. 2. Assurance — Bronze, Silver and Gold assessment depths for product evidence. Payment buys investigation depth, not a guaranteed certificate result. 3. Procurement support — structured evidence mapping for buyers and suppliers. It does not create government endorsement or an invented procurement approval.

A supplier can use one lane without buying the others.

Use the public Verify page with the certificate reference. Do not rely on a logo or screenshot alone.
